65' x 85' at its widest, (not including cattail area) and rights to be 3 acre feet. We would like to be able to restock it with it's original inhabitants, trout, and 'groom' the wetland portion in order to bring it back to its former glory as a central attraction to birds and other wildlife. We are planning to dredge the pond to bring it back to at least a depth of 8', implement some grading to slow the erosion which serves to deposit massive quantities of dirt and decaying vegetation in the pond, and we will, as part of the dredging, clear the cattails. And yes, before you ask, it is not a septic field issue - we had the pond and spring area tested for everything. The pond bottom and adjacent swamp smell like sewage due to the high content of decaying plant matter. Additionally, there are several spring sources that feed the pond and keep a large area adjacent to the pond essentially a mucky swamp most of the time. It has also been 40% over taken with Cattails and willow-type grasses. Because of the pond location relative to the surrounding hills and the lack of erosion mitigation, over the past decades the pond has gone from over 8' deep to it's current depth of 3'. The shoreline was vegetated with cattails and willow. We have a property in the Conifer area that has a pond on it. Office indicated that this site was previously used as a disposal area for dredge material.
